Condoms come with different sizes, colors and shapes nowadays. You may even find condoms in various flavors. There are so many options and choices that they may probably be out of your imaginations. In fact, there was virtually only one kind of condom in the past. However, they are now just like fashions and there are new types and kinds of condoms being invented everyday. The function of condoms can be more than protection against pregnancy and diseases. They can also add enjoyment and pleasure.
Although there are many different types of condoms available, they can be roughly put into eight different categories. Of course the ninth and tenth category may come to us tomorrow. But these eight categories will be good enough to describe the condoms available in the market nowadays.
The first category is the material, condom currently are usually made from latex or polyurethane. The second one is about the size, here size is referred to the width of a condom but not the length of it. Yet what you usually find in the shops are products of standard sizes. You may need to visit some sex toy shops in order to get an extra large one. Besides, the lubricant applied can also form a category.
Apart from the above three, there is a forth category, which is the spermicidal one. It is used to lessen the probability of getting pregnant. And one of the spermicidal substances is know as nonoxynol-9. However, one disadvantage of such spermicidal substance is that some people may be sensitive to this. Besides, there are also researches showing that the probability of HIV-infection can be increased if this is used lots of times.
The fifth category is the ribbed condoms. If there is no AIDS and HIV in this world, many people will not use condoms because they think that the can feel nothing if condoms are used. The texture and ridges of this type will add some more pleasure to sex intercourse.
As discussed, color also forms a category. There are a lot of different colors for you to choose. Some may be fond of black colored ones since it looks less dirty if it is used for anal sex. There are also different tastes and favors, from vanilla to strawberry. The last category is known as reservoir tipped. Nearly all condoms have a reservoir to hold the semen. Of course there are also some products which do not have the reservoir.
In fact there should be a ninth type, which is the female condom. However, since what we discuss in this article is on male condom so we will not discuss about it in detail.
